Lesson 2: Clarifying Your Style

Part of the magic of photography is in the unique viewer's eye. Did you know that 10 people are likely to take 10 different images of a single thing? Knowing YOUR unique style and voice sets you on a path to creating art unique to you.

Lesson 3: Understanding Composition

Composition is one of the most important tools a photographer has. Learn about composition and when you might want to use different rules and approaches.

Lesson 4: Learning to see light

One of the biggest problems I see with photographs is bad light. Learning to see light can take an image from meh to WOW!

Lesson 5: How the camera sees

When we learn to grab the reins of our cameras, WE decide (not the camera) what and how the camera sees. In this lesson, we cover camera settings including aperture, shutter, ISO, and white balance.

Lesson 6: The Art of Storytelling

In this lesson, we'll discuss how to use the photographer's toolkit to tell a unique and powerful story.

BONUS: Image Review

Participants will be invited to submit photographs prior to the day of class. I will anonymously select a few to discuss in light of what we covered in The Art of Seeing class.

"The Art of Seeing class was a great beginner class. It’s a fun introduction to photography while learning some foundational concepts. We spoke about proper composition and creating a story with our photographs and how to portray that vision in our photos. We discussed the importance of lighting and how it can change the feel or emotion of the photograph. We explored the different settings of the camera such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Susan was a pleasure to learn from. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. I look forward to her next class."
